ANNOUNCEMENT : NEW DATES FOR ASIA INFRASTRUCTURE 2011 EXPO |
|
|
|
On behalf of the Steering Committee, we wish to announce that the dates of Asia Infrastructure 2011 - the International Infrastructure Development Exhibition & Conference will be moved to new dates from 5th - 7th July 2011. The venue will remain at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching, Sarawak. |
|
|
|
The new dates are recommended by the Expo Committee in view of the following considerations : |
|
|
|

Requests from major industry players in Sarawak to change the dates to have more lead time in planning for this international event including Sawarak Energy Berhad, Weida Berhad, Naim Bhd, Shiyang Berhad, Trinekens Berhad and CMS Berhad. |
|
|
|
| 2. |
|
To allow more lead time for the organizing of the ASEAN Infrastructure Summit which will be e high powered meeting of top industry players. |
|
|
|
| 3. |
|
To coincide with the Borneo Rain Forest Festival. |
|
|
|
|

MAJOR EXHIBITORS SIGNED UP TO TAP USD 9 BILLION MARKET IN SARAWAK |

The Sarawak State Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Communications will host the inaugural Asia Infrastructure 2011 - the International Infrastructure Development Exhibition & Conference to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching, Malaysia from 5-7 July 2011. The Sarawak Government has allocated RM 3.4 billion for infrastructure projects to improve accessibility and connectivity throughout the State and covers air, sea and road transportation, communications, housing, electricity & water supply/sanitation and industrial zones. In addition, RM 24 billion has been invested in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy and another RM 70 billion worth of projects has been proposed. |

The Sarawak State Government, through the Ministry of Industrial Development and Communications will host the inaugural Asia Infrastructure 2011 - the International Infrastructure Development Exhibition & Conference to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching, Malaysia from 5 - 7 July 2011. As countries across Asia experience strong economic growth in recent years, enormous pressure is put on its transport, housing & industrial capacity, energy, water/sewerage, waste management and communications infrastructure. As such, infrastructure development is now a priority for countries to ensure continued development, improve competitiveness and reduce poverty in the rural communities. |

|
According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) for the period 2010 to 2020, the region will need to invest $8 trillion in overall national infrastructure. On average, Asia will need to invest around $750 billion per year during this period. |
|
|
|
Sarawak is an ideal venue for this international event as the State Government has embarked upon many infrastructure development projects which will form the backbone of the State's industrialization programme. It will also support the Government's initiative on the Sarawak Corridor on Renewable Energy which will transform its economy into a developed State by 2020. Over RM300 billion worth of potential investments is expected under this initiative up till 2030. |

Sarawak plans to build a railway link between Similajau and Tanjung Manis by 2030 to facilitate the |

transportation of goods in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). |

|
RM150 million allocated for the upgrading of the building and facilities of the Sibu Airport terminal. |
|
|

|
Maxis Bhd, which is targeting one million mobile subscribers in Sarawak by year-end, will support the state |

government's Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) initiative on network improvement including |
|
|
coverage enhancement in the Similajau-Tanjung Manis-Mukah region as well as remote sites in Kuching and |

|
Lundu-Bau. This is on top of the RM21 million spent to boost network coverage in Sarawak last year. |

RM11 billion investments committed by 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and State Grid Corporation of |
|
|
China (SGCC) for their venture in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). |
|
|
|
|
|
NAIM Holdings Bhd, a Sarawak-based construction and property group said it hoped to replenish its order |
|
|
book by between RM500 million and RM1 billion annually, boosted largely by jobs from within the Sarawak |
|
|
Corridor of Renewable Energy. |
|
|
|
|
|
Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) has the most to gain from the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy |
|
|
(SCORE). Sarawak, which has an energy output of 933 megawatt, plans to build 12 hydroelectric dams |
|
|
that will boost total generating capacity to 7,000 MW by 2020 a 600% increase. |
|
|
|
|
'Make no mistake about it - SCORE is no longer a rhetoric. To date some RM24 billion investments have been ploughed into the State under this banner, while another RM 70 billion worth of projects have been proposed'. |
